Above & Beyond is the local charity that raises funds for Bristol’s nine central hospitals.  Each year, they invest some £3 million in projects that make a real difference to patients in our city.   The charity fundraises to improve the hospital environment, fund innovative research, support and train hospital staff and provide state of the art equipment.  Working with inspirational local people, their aim is to make a difference to every patient and every condition.  When patients, their families and friends want to say thank you for the care they’ve received at the hospitals, they go to Above & Beyond.
Recent projects have included the £1.6M transformation of the Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre, the purchase of a state of the art Heliox ventilator for the Bristol Royal Infirmary, the provision of additional accommodation for parents whose children are being treated at Bristol Children’s Hospital and support of innovative research into breast-cancer after care.
Above & Beyond rely on the goodwill and support of donors and fundraisers to raise money for Bristol’s Hospitals. Without their support these projects simply couldn’t happen.

CaRE Appeal reaches £1.6m target

Medics on the Move is a great supporter of Above & Beyond and we are delighted to report that the charity and its supporters have reached the £1.6 million target for the CARE (Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Environment) Appeal to transform the environment for patients with cancer.

First launched in September 2009, the money has helped to radically re-design and refurbish many areas of the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, on Horfield Road, which cares for some 6,500 individual patients each year.

More than a thousand former BHOC patients - including Stephy Morgan - helped the charity to reach the £1.6m target and in March 2011 a Public Open Day gave some 300 people in the local area the chance to see what a difference has been made. Stephy explains:

"I found myself at the Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in November 2005. I owe the hospital my life, and so wanted to get involved in supporting the CaRE Appeal.

"Patients need somewhere that matches the sunshine and optimism of staff. The difference is amazing - I'm proud to have been part of making it happen."
Former BHOC patient and CaRE Appeal Fundraiser, Stephy Morgan.
