Why move to East Kent?

The Garden of England, Kent is famous for its hops, orchards and easy access to France which is only just over 30 minutes away on the Shuttle.

CANTERBURY

The city of Canterbury with its famous cathedral and links to the Chaucer Tales is popular with tourists and is the home of two universities, Kent and Christchurch.

  • The centre has undergone a major redevelopment to provide a large pedestrianised shopping centre and is serviced by a park and ride service.

THANET

With some of the best beaches in the UK, the Isle of Thanet offers affordable property prices and good transport links via the Thanet Way and South Eastern Train Service.

  • The new shopping centre at Westwood Cross with multiplex cinema and restaurants provides leisure facilities for the area.

DOVER and FOLKESTONE

  • The port of Dover, famous for it's White Cliffs is the closest point of the UK to the rest of Europe and a trip across the channel takes an hour and a half on one of the Cross Channel ferries.

  • The cruise terminal sees a constant stream of luxery liners in the port and the marina is a popular mooring spot for some luxury vessels.

  • in Folkestone the Leas Coastal Park has totally revamped the seafront area with a beautifully landscaped walk with an adventure playground for the children.

Connections

Principal transport links are the M20 and M2 motorways. The towns of Canterbury, and Ashford provide rail links to London and with the high speed rail link going live at the end of 2009, this will cut commuting times to London from Canterbury to just over an hour and from Ashford to just over 40 minutes.

Links to Ashford International Station make commuting to Paris and Brussels via the Eurostar service easy and cross channel ferries from the port of Dover offer a trip to France in 1 1/2 hours.

The bus network links across the county of Kent are very good and offer transport services to the rural areas and around the towns.

Where to buy or rent

Properties in East Kent are highly desirable and many families move away from London for a quieter pace of life, and access to good schools.

  • Hugely in demand properties are large rural family properties and in Canterbury city centre one bed apartments are at a premium.

  • Seaside towns of Whitstable and areas of Thanet are very popular with young professionals and families and offer a wealth of individual shops, bars and restaurants.

  • Beachfront properties are very desirable as are the victorian terraces, close to the seafront both for homes and weekend retreats.
