Leisure

Kingston is a wonderful place to spend time at leisure. Whether it be sporting activities or relaxing, there is always plenty to do.

Aside from shopping and participating in the many sports available, there are more relaxed ways to spend your time. For example, locals take advantage of the large open spaces to walk around, the river to cruise along, visit the bars and bistro's of the area and enjoy a good bout of retail therapy! For more cultural events one can take a short trip to Hampton Court Palace which is down the river and right next to Kingston. Richmond Park is also on the footsteps of Kingston and one can take a walk in the park or go for a picnic and see the famous deer.

There is no doubt that Kingston is a place where you can relax as much as you want and be as active as you want.

Shopping

Shopping in Kingston is well catered for and is generally towards the upper end of expectations, with a good mixture of familiar High Street chains and more select boutiques.

The shopping centre includes a shopping mall, "The Bentall Centre" (pictured), containing the Bentalls department store and large branches of chain stores found in many British high streets.

There is a large branch of the John Lewis department store group, with a Waitrose supermarket, located in the basement. The Rotunda, located in the former Bentalls furniture depository building (a local landmark), includes a bowling alley, fitness centre, a 14-screen Odeon multiplex cinema and some restaurants.

Recent developments along the riverside south of Kingston Bridge have added bars, restaurants and a theatre, the Rose of Kingston which opened in 2007 with Sir Peter Hall as the director. The ancient market is still held daily in the Market Place.

Sports

In terms of sporting activities, Kingston can boast the Kingsmeadow Stadium, home of the local football team the "Kingstonians", which also has an athletics track for those budding athletes.

Football clubs are everywhere ranging from Sunday pitches to 5-a-side teams. The Fulham F.C. team also train within the borough. There are Cricket Clubs all around the area where anyone can join in and play during the summer.

There are lots of tennis courts within the borough, the most famous being the Surbiton Lawn Tennis club where it has been known for Wimbledon hopefuls to come and practice.

Rugby is also played at various locations around the borough and even the Harlequins practice within the borough.

As we are one of the rare borough's to have a main river flowing through it, we have a number of water-based activities that one can participate in, such as Rowing, Boating, Water-skiing and Canoeing. If you are looking for a swim or spa, then Kingston has a fair amount of Gymnasiums in good locations that can offer these facilities as well.
